Jimmy’s Prediction: Geelong by 14
This’ll be a prelim for the ages. A replay of the greatest Grand Final of all time, 35 years later will be just as exciting – but definitely less gruesome.
In my eyes, the Hollywood Hawks have re-earned their title, after two exciting and high intensity finals. Their first final against the Giants showed great resilience when being pushed, to overcome the mental barrier and keep fighting back, until GWS ran out of gas. Hawthorn did this in a clinical fashion to Adelaide, who didn’t cope with the pressure nearly as well.
The Cats are always ready to be at their prime at this time of year. After a week off, they’ll be purring to come clawing at the colosseum at their biggest rival.
Geelong are definitely looking like the favourite in my eyes – the way they dismantled the Lions 2 weeks ago was all class, and Brisbane are no scrubs. Although the Hawks just knocked off the top of the ladder Adelaide – the crows have been in all sorts for the last 2 months. Not just the Rankine dramas, but almost losing to West Coast and North – come on.
It’ll be an exciting game and Hawks will definitely bring it, but Geelong are just too powerful in too many places.

Collingwood vs. Brisbane
Saturday, September 20 – MCG
Jimmy’s Prediction: Brisbane by 17
Another replay of a great Grand Final – however this one was only two years ago, with many of the same suspects still floating around.
Brisbane absolute put the little brother Gold Coast back in their place, and showed off their talent in the guts. Although Brisbane have the amazing ability to be either really good, or really crap – depending on how they feel on the day.
The good old Collingwood are really living up to the start of their song, with the plethora of 30+ year old experienced players still getting the job done. And in finals footy, a level head is much more important than a bit of extra toe.
However, the Pies haven’t been too flash hot of late – and controversial opinion, but they really lucked out playing Adelaide in the qualifying. Crows were a sinking ship disguised as Premiership favourite, and Collingwood got the lucky opportunity to sink them at the right time.
Due to the strength of Brisbanes list across the ground, and recent finals experience, I’m backing them to get into the big dance for a third year in a row.
