Brisbane Lions vs. Essendon
Thursday, May 29 – The Gabba – 7:30 PM AEST
Jimmy’s Prediction: Brisbane by 52
Oh god, can someone at AFL house please stop Essendon at prime time. This is coming from a Dons supporter.
Although they’ve won 4 of 5 Thursday or Friday night clashes – they’ve been hard to watch. And with further injuries added to the list with Reid who has been looking great down back, and also Langford.
The Lions looked back to their Premiership best against Hawthorn last round, winning comfortably by 5 goals at the G. It’ll be a tough business trip for the Bombers up in Brisbane this week, and the game will go as expected.
Brisbane to slaughter them.

Collingwood vs. Hawthorn
Friday, May 30 – MCG
Jimmy’s Prediction: Hawthorn by 12
Here we go, the trusty prime time regulars are back in their element. The Pies had a bit of a fright last week against the Roos but absolutely blew them out of the water in the last quarter. They are looking unstoppable of late, so I’m predicting they’ll get complacent and drop one.
I think the Hawks definitely have the talent and tenacity to serve this up to the Magpies, but they’ve been pretty mediocre of late. Only wining games they definitely shouldn’t lose, and losing their last 3 games against actual formidable opponents (Brisbane, Gold Coast and Port – kind of).
Hawks are definitely looking like a bunch of phonies, and I think they need to win this to be taken seriously again. I’m backing Sam Mitchell to give them a rev up and for them to give their current statuses of muggles and Bollywood, back to wizards and Hollywood.
Hawks to come out hard and hold it.

Gold Coast vs. Fremantle
Saturday, May 31 – People First Stadium
Jimmy’s Prediction: Gold Coast by 41
I wouldn’t say Freo have been quiet achievers this year, but maybe under the radar doing okay. There was a lot of onus on their poor start to the year, but they are sitting just outside the 8 and have had a few decent wins of late against Adelaide and GWS.
Still, it’s been a case of one step forward, one step back for the Dockers and this’ll be another step back after coming across to see the Suns in Gold Coast.
The Suns have carried on their trait of being undefeated at home from last year, yet have actually learnt how to win games away, and are suddenly looking really scary. Their midfield and forward is elite, and even if this was in Perth, I’d back them.
Unfortunately for Freo it is not in Perth, and their trip to Gold Coast will end in misery.
Gold Coast comfortably.

GWS vs. Richmond
Saturday, May 31 – ENGIE Stadium
Jimmy’s Prediction: GWS by 46
The Giants are still sitting on the knifes edge of the 8 after a decent win against the Blues, so this week should be a cake walk – although footy math suggests the Tiges will put up more of a fight.
However, the only time Richmond have won or had any chance has been in Melbourne – so they’ll struggle at Engie Stadium. With Lynch gone and unless they’ve arranged a private jet for Balta to come home directly from Olympic Park – that’ll be another omission from their spine.
After how commanding the Giants looked against Carlton last week, I can’t see Richmond having any shot.
GWS to flog them.

Sydney vs. Adelaide
Saturday, May 31 – SCG
Jimmy’s Prediction: Adelaide by 36
It’s official. Sydney stink. The reigning grand finalists have been riddled with injuries, but only a couple have been standing up and having a crack each week. And their names are Chad and Isaac.
West Coast had a commendable effort against the Crows last week – for half a game. Adelaide then absolutely turned it on and showed why they are serious this year. While the Crows haven’t been too bad away, they’ve been a bit better at home (as expected).
Even with the home ground advantage, Sydney are in a different league to Adelaide at the minute – and it’s three leagues below.
Adelaide to win comfortably.

Melbourne vs. St Kilda
Sunday, May 25 – TIO Traeger Park
Jimmy’s Prediction: Melbourne by 8
Are Melbourne back? After a disastrous start to the year, they’ve ended up winning 5 of their last 6 games, with the recent loss against the Hawks. Considering Brisbane was one of those recent wins, the Dees have certainly earned respect.
Speaking of respect, something St Kilda have not received in the past month and have now lost 3 games in a row. To be fair, they weren’t horrible against Gold Coast last round only going down by 19 against a flag favourite – but to be critical, they’re still not great.
This will be a decent hit out to see if St Kilda should just give up and start counting pennies for TDK, and to see if Melbournes form of late is still solid.
I can see this going either way, but by recent history I have to go the Dees.

West Coast vs. Geelong
Sunday, June 1 – Optus Stadium
Jimmy’s Prediction: Geelong by 28
The Eagles would probably like to forget the flogging they received from Adelaide last week, but this week probably won’t be much kinder.
While the Cats don’t travel too well, they’ve been solid enough this year with beating both Adelaide and Port Adelaide at Adelaide Oval, and even the Pies at the G. I can’t see the hostile Eagles crowd and 4 hour flight levelling the playing field much.
West Coast had some good signs from last week, however they need to string that together for twice as long. Hopefully they give the Cars a bit of a fright, but Geelong are just too good for any actual contest.
Geelong comfortably.
