Gold Coast vs. Hawthorn
Thursday, May 15 – TIO Stadium
Jimmy’s Prediction: Gold Coast by 11
I don’t know who would have the upper hand in this match – Gold Coast after being acclimatised to Darwin weather for an extra week, or the Hawks for coming into the heat after the lovely refreshing and rejuvenating Melbourne weather.
Presuming AFL players don’t hate the humidity as much as me, the Suns seem to be in their element up North. After a gutsy win against the Doggies last week in the top end, they’ll be feeling a lot more comfortable in their home away from home, than Hawthorn will.
Although the Hawks have notched up 3 wins in a row, and had the biggest win (in the best round of football ever) last week – I’m not convinced they have their swagger back.
This week will be a good test for Hawthorn to see if they are as slick as they appeared at the start of the year. However, I’m not convinced and I can’t see them beating the Suns anywhere at the minute. Especially in Darwin.
Gold Coast by a few sweaty goals.

Sydney vs. Carlton
Friday, May 16 – SCG
Jimmy’s Prediction: Carlton by 8
The two theoretical juggernauts this season have been as useful as flaccid flag pole. Carlton have had a few lowly wins to keep a pulse on their season, and Sydney have hit a new low by losing to Essendon last week.
With a lot of fingers being pointed at the helm of both teams, Coxy and Vossy would be both be sweating over this. A very important win for either team, as Sydney are desperate to get back on the winning list, and Carlton really need to keep this thing going.
Although the Swans will have the home ground advantage this week, they are too bruised and battered with injuries and Carlton seem to have found some form. Not great, but they are winning games.
Carlton, but could be a good one.

Collingwood vs. Adelaide
Saturday, May 17 – MCG
Jimmy’s Prediction: Adelaide by 4
Tipping this to be the game of the round. The Pies are coming off a stock standard game of footy last week with half their team taking a break, but still had the W against Fremantle. Them, and the Collingwood faithful are happy to be back in their beds after their biannual visit to Perth.
Adelaide had a cracker of a game last week against cross town rival Port in the showdown. The Crows are a strong ship this season and while they have had a few losses, nothing has been significant.
In Adelaide I’d comfortably back the Crows as I think the momentum will be strong and like for like, I think they have a better list.
But, at the G is where the Pies thrive, and they will be looking much better than last week with their rested players back in.
This one is tough, but I’m going the Crows in an upset. Collingwood’s older players can’t keep this up forever, and if there is ever going to be a team to smack them about – it’d be this oversized, strong and skilful Adelaide team.
Crows in a belter.

Port Adelaide vs. Geelong
Saturday, May 17 – Adelaide Oval
Jimmy’s Prediction: Port Adelaide by 19
A lot of retribution for this game, after both teams lost last week by only 4 and 5 points.
Port looked very good last week, especially their stars in Rozee, Butters, Georgiades and Horne-Francis, in a tough game against their number one rival Adelaide.
Geelong are always dominant at home, but did manage to get showed up last week at GMHBA by the Giants, who had been in a bit of a slump of late.
Whilst Geelong are always a threat, their midfield is seriously lacking and this could be a huge opportunity for the young guns in Port to have a field day. And over in Adelaide, I think they can do it.
Port, in a comfortable upset.

GWS vs. Fremantle
Saturday, May 17 – ENGIE Stadium
Jimmy’s Prediction: GWS by 32
The Giants are back on the winners list after a good and high scoring affair in G-town last week. Hogan was back at his best and kicked a bag, proving himself as a glue to their success – which surprised no one.
Freo had the rare opportunity for them to derail a top 4 side in Collingwood last week. But, the Pies confidently got the job done, even with missing a handful of their important players. The Dockers have really struggled out of Perth, so last week was an important get that they missed.
Going by Freos recent form outside of Perth – I can’t see them getting close.
GWS to smoke them.

Western Bulldogs vs. Essendon
Saturday, April 19 – Marvel
Jimmy’s Prediction: Bulldogs by 23
The dirty dogs have been one of the best and most skilful teams to watch of late, and it’ll be a travesty if Essendon brings them down to their level under the dome.
After losing their first game AB (after Bont) in the tough Darwin conditions last week, they’ll be happy to be back home with the mercury staying under 25 degree.
The Dons are absurdly in the top 8. However, when you realise the 5 games they’ve won are a giant 5 of the 6 bottom teams – it makes more sense. To be fair some of Essendon’s players are standing up of late, and as much as I love Merrett, he no match for Bont + English.

Richmond vs. North Melbourne
Sunday, May 18 – MCG
Jimmy’s Prediction: North by 20
Oh god. It had to happen at some stage. But after the absolute heat from both teams last week, this could be fun.
The Tiges just held on in what felt like a Grand Final last week, and kept the Eagles still winless this year.
Much more impressing, is that North managed to draw the reigning premiers, and current top of the ladder, Brisbane. Now I did say they wouldn’t get blown away by Brissy last week, but no one predicted that. 17th drawing 1 is mental.
Going by the formidability of the opponents last week, it’s an easy North for me, and that they might be starting to piece this thing together.
North to kick away, in a close early a game.

Brisbane Lions vs. Melbourne
Sunday, May 18 – Gabba
Jimmy’s Prediction: Brisbane by 38
I feel sorry for Melbourne. Not only are they terrible and their supporters hate watching them – they are going to cop an almighty wrath from the Lions this week.
Brisbane have barely been concerned about dropping a game here and there, because they keep winning most of the time. However, when they lost to Collingwood a few weeks ago, they came out firing the next week.
I can’t even imagine the spray they’ll get from Fags this week, but they’ll be looking at beating the crap out of Melbourne to feel better about themselves.
Easy one, Brisbane to smash them, and for the love of god Charlie Cameron to pull his finger out so we can hear John Denver on repeat.

West Coast vs. St Kilda
Sunday, May 18 – Optus Stadium
Jimmy’s Prediction: Saints by 15
The Weagles could be on here. They had a very gut-wrenching loss to Richmond last week, over in Melbourne. Normally, they play for their life at home and just let the away games go through to the keeper. But this hasn’t been a normal season.
If St Kilda, and their fans, still think they have any chance of doing anything more than being a top 12 team this year, they cannot lose this.
West Coast will get a win soon, they just will. But, whether is the emotional or physical stress, it feels like they cannot put in consecutive close matches at a time. And by close, I mean West Coasts version of close.
I don’t think they’ll be able to back up their solid performance from last week. And Saints need to do something to keep their season having a heartbeat.
Saints by a few.
