Melbourne vs. Richmond

Thursday, April 24 – MCG

Jimmy’s Prediction: Melbourne by 20

A week ago I would’ve condemned this game as a waste of MCG resources and disrespectful to ANZAC Day – now I don’t know what to believe.

The Tiges had a very good and unexpected win to stop the Gold Coast freight train, and Ben King, possibly worried about being hit, having a stinker with only 4 touches.

The Dees also nabbed their first win, with Kozzy Pickett leading the way with a lazy 5 goals, and Gawny at his best.

If both teams bring the same momentum from last week, it should be a worthwhile Thursday night game. Balta definitely did his part for Richmond, so without him and up against Melbournes top tier players, who actually showed up last week – I’m backing the Dees to go two in a row.

Collingwood vs. Essendon

Friday, April 25 – MCG

Jimmy’s Prediction: Collingwood by 26

Oh boy, usually the best football day in the year in my opinion – may be a lacklustre.

As a normal well-adjusted adult, I have a healthy dissent for Collingwood, which fuels scepticism on their ability – but far out they are playing well. The old dogs like Sidebottom and Pendles continue to show class, which is well complemented by the Daicos brothers speed and silky skills.

The Dons, could be the worst team to win 3 in a row (from an Essendon supporter). Skills are all over the place, half-assed tackles, and just dropping sitters. But credit to them, they have kept fighting in each of their games – which has been an issue on the last few years.

With the Dons missing both starting rucks for the rest of the year, and Darcy Cameron being in some firm form – I think the Pies will have their way. It wouldn’t be ANZAC Day without a decent hit-out, and I can see Goldstein coming in hard for his first game back, but Collingwood are looking very fit and I can see them really kicking away with it in the end.

Jimmy’s Tips:

Fremantle vs. Adelaide

Friday, April 25 – Optus Stadium

Jimmy’s Prediction: Adelaide by 23

Although it’s over in Perth, I think the books have got it wrong with backing Freo as the fave. They’ve looked incredibly underwhelming this year, with a list that has serious potential, and their only decent win was against the injured Dogs at Perth.

Adelaide, have only lost two games and they were against the always strong Geelong, and the super in form Gold Coast – who are notoriously hard to beat at home.

Although big Fogarty may be out after a shoulder injury, which is absurd given the size of those deltoids – the Crows have no shortage of big men who can kick a bag.

Even with Heave Ho having the home ground advantage, I think the Crom will be too good.

Adelaide by a few goals.

St Kilda vs. Brisbane

Saturday, April 26 – Marvel Stadium

Jimmy’s Prediction: Brisbane by 28

The Saints have been found out to be the imposters they are after getting torn apart by the Bont and his posse. They’ve only won junk games this season with a few arguable outliers in Geelong and Port, but both teams were in average form – especially Port.

Brisbanes massive loss to Collingwood was exactly the wake up call they needed. They’ve been playing sub-par footy all year, but winning every game – it was about time they got caught out.

With the Lions likely taking their training and games a lot more serious now, I think they’ll come out hard and show us why they are the reigning premiers.

Brisbane comfortably.

Jimmy’s Tips:

Port Adelaide vs. North Melbourne

Saturday, April 26 – Adelaide Oval

Jimmy’s Prediction: Port by 45

It took a bit, but Port are back. After absolutely smacking the sense out of Hawthorn, they backed it up with a comfortable win against the Swans, up in Sydney.

North’s annual breathe of life into their fans seems to be well forgotten, as they have been getting pumped by an average of 59 points for the last four games.

With the Roos being in their natural state of being out of form, having to come to Adelaide to fight the inform Port – will almost certainly be a bloodbath. The only consolation I can see is if the Kangas have a dip to get some heat off Clarko.

Port to smoke them.

Jimmy’s Tips:

Port Adelaide Line (-36.5)

  • Port Adelaide Line (-36.5)

GWS vs. Western Bulldogs

Saturday, April 26 – Manuka Oval

Jimmy’s Prediction: GWS by 6

I must say, I was a bit worried that the return of the Bont may have triggered a messiah mindset where they expect him to do it all – but they didn’t. Although he had a standard blinder, the good work the Dogs have been doing without him continued, and now with him – they looked scary.

The Giants are still looking strong despite the loss over in Adelaide on the weekend. If Hogan and Daniels find their way back into the team, it’ll be a very good hit out.

Hard to say with such TBC news on some players, including Sam Darcy at time of writing – however with the game not being in Vic, I’m backing the Giants. But not confidently.

Jimmy’s Tips:

GWS to Win

Gold Coast vs. Sydney

Sunday, April 27 – People First Stadium

Jimmy’s Prediction: Gold Coast by 23

Gold Coast, after finally entering the conversation as a top 4 contender – really let it slip last week by abysmally losing to Richmond.

Sydney also are a far cry from their best, getting done by Port at Sydney – they are not the team they were 12 months ago.

Seeing how it is back up on the coast and after their absolute humbling last week, I think the Suns will have it. Sydney will get some form back eventually, but won’t be at up on the Coast. It seems all teams minds are on Cavill Avenue when they’re up there, and not Peoples First Stadium – and the Swans will no exception.

Suns comfortably.

Jimmy’s Tips:

Gold Coast Line (-12.5)

Carlton vs. Geelong

Sunday, April 27 – MCG

Jimmy’s Prediction: Geelong by 18

Could be an interesting game this one. On one hand, I am curious to see if the Blues have legitimately turned a corner and will actually start playing a decent brand of footy.

However, the other hand is slapping me in the face saying Carlton have only won a few junk games and will get another season wake up call.

The Cats looked way too good last week against Hawthorn, and whilst it was a close and exciting game – it never really seemed like they were threatened.

Unfortunately, I think we are going to have to deal with Geelong being very good for at least another few years.

Geelong by a few goals.

Jimmy’s Tips:

Geelong to Win

Same Game Multi

  • Geelong to Win

Hawthorn vs. West Coast

Sunday, April 27 – MCG

Jimmy’s Prediction: Hawthorn by 50

I’ve been expecting the Hawks to drop down a notch all year, and to be fair its taken a bit longer than I thought. They are still a very decent team, but are serious momentum addicts and with a few players out and things not going their way – they drop off hard.

West Coast are an easy target at this stage, but they did look pretty decent against the Bombers – but so does everyone.

West Coast will get a win at some stage, but it’ll be in Perth and it certainly won’t be this week. The Hawks will want to get that pendulum swinging back their way, and will really step on the Eagles throat.

Although Oscan Allen has had a stinker of a season thus far, I reckon he might come out swinging at the club he was flirting with to A/ prove a point to the Eagles supporters, and or B/ to negotiate bank later in the year with the Hawks.

Either way, Hawks to smoke them.

Jimmy’s Tips:

Hawthorn to Win (40+)
1.32 at Neds

Same Game Multi

  • Hawthorn to Win (40+)

  • Jake Waterman 2+ Goals

  • Oscan Allen 3+ Goals

Hawthorn’s development and form suggest a win over West Coast.
